COMMUNITY ARTS CENTER FOUNDATION

The Community Arts Center Foundation (CACF) is the private, non-profit organization that owns the Prizery and will maintain the renovated building. CACF has representatives from most of the Prizery Partners on its Board and is responsible for oversight of the project.

The mission statement of CACF is "To establish a regional multi-cultural arts center. The purpose of this center is to provide, promote, and preserve performing arts, visual arts, and the multi-cultural education of the region."


HALIFAX COUNTY LITTLE THEATRE

Halifax County Little Theatre, Inc. (HCLT) is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization founded in 1954. HCLT held its first production in 1955, and celebrated its 50th year in 2004-5. HCLT produces 3-4 shows a year, typically run over two weekends (5-6 performances each).  The typical HCLT season covers a wide range of productions, including touching dramas and large-scale musical comedies.  Members and audiences alike especially value the children’s theater productions, which are designed to create educational opportunities for young cast and crew.

HCLT is always happy to welcome new members.  Come see an HCLT show, then talk to a member about auditioning for the next one!

PARSONS-BRUCE ART ASSOCIATION

Parsons-Bruce art association is a non-profit all volunteer organization whose members believe that art is for everyone. Since 1976 Parsons-Bruce has been an indispensable font of visual art from eye-popping exhibits to hands-on classes and everything in between. Its sole mission is to serve the community.

Parsons-Bruce sponsors art classes in a variety of media for all ages, a monthly classic and independent film series, art exhibits, speakers, workshops, commissioned artwork, museum trips, student artist scholarships and even poetry readings.

Parsons-Bruce Art Association has received grants from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, partners with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and is a major fund-raiser for The Prizery with its biennial art gala, “An Affair of the Arts.”


SOUTHERN VIRGINIA HIGHER EDUCATION CENTER

The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center offers learning for all ages: from [UTF-8?]children’s science classes to non-credit book discussions to GEDs to Ph.D.s.  Degree-granting institutions under its umbrella include Danville Community College, Southside Virginia Community College, Central Virginia Community College, Virginia Tech, University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, Old Dominion University, Longwood University, Mary Baldwin College, James Madison University, Averett University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

A financial aid office makes education accessible.

SOUTH BOSTON - HALIFAX JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUB

The South Boston - Halifax Junior Woman's Club (JWC) is an active community service organization with about 40 members.

The club is committed to seeing the Prizery Project through to a successful conclusion and seeing the Prizery functioning as an integral part of community life and also anticipates holding its monthly meetings at the Prizery. The President of the club states, "Our members see this project as important to ourselves, our community growth and development, and the growth and development of our children."

In response to a challenge by the National Federation of Woman's Clubs to improve the community, the South Boston-Halifax Junior Women's Club has taken on the Prizery Project as a community improvement project. The JWC captured first place honors in the state in 2000 for their preservation and revitalization work at the Prizery. The local club competed against 97 other entries across the state for the Community improvement Program Award, sponsored by Shell Oil.


HALIFAX COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The society exists to interpret, collect, and make available evidence of the past, and to provide leadership on furthering knowledge and appreciation of the history of Halifax County, Virginia.

The Halifax County Historical Society's Executive Committee has approved the naming of a special window at the Prizery in memory W. Carroll Headspeath, local historian and author of the Crossing of the Dan.

This window is located on the second floor overlooking the Dan River near the crossing site and will be surrounded by a permanent exhibit depicting the crossing.


THE HALIFAX WOMAN'S CLUB

The Halifax Woman's Club (HWC), the oldest civic women's club in the county, is dedicated to the "social, philosophical, civic, and domestic betterment of the county." HWC has about 100 members, and the Prizery plans include a designed space to accommodate approximately 40-60 people and will be used for regular meetings for both HWC and JWC.
