Welcome to The Prizery's new site!

Posted on in General

With the launch of The Prizery's new website, Artistic Director Chris Jones will be using this blog to help keep you abreast of all the exciting things going on at The Prizery.

The Prizery has something for everyone: live music, theatrical performances including The Prizery's Summer Theatre, art and music classes, The Crossing of the Dan exhibit for history buffs, the Robert F. Cage Art Gallery and our Italian Fresco, Little Theatre performances, and venue rentals for anything from business events to weddings to theatre presentations.

Glerin encourages you to consider the "Sponsor a Day at The Prizery" program. It costs $667 per day just to open the doors, even if there are no events, and The Prizery operates an astounding 364 days a year! You can choose the day you would like to sponsor - maybe to remember someone special or to celebrate a special day - and you'll be recognized on a sign in the lobby, 4 radio ads on your day, and a listing in the playbill for each performance.

There is always a need for volunteers also, so if you don't have the money but do have extra time please consider volunteering to help further the arts in our community.

If you notice any problems with the site that we may not be aware of, please inform Glerin Business Resources at info@glerin.com so we can make corrections. We're proud to have donated a good portion of the new site, and appreciate your help in making sure it's the best it can be.

Thank you, and enjoy your visits to The Prizery!

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts lecture coming

Posted on in Latest News

Elizabeth Cruickshanks will present a one-session informational talk entitled “How to Apply for a VMFA Visual Arts Fellowship” on September 15 in South Boston.

Sponsored locally by The Prizery, the lecture will be at The Prizery at 7:00 p.m.

Cruickshanks will introduce attendees to VMFA’s Visual Arts Fellowship Program, providing a history of this wonderful resource for Virginia’s artists and art students and explaining how artists can apply for funding. The Fellowship program was the vision of the late John Lee Pratt of Fredericksburg, Virginia; offered through VMFA’s Art & Education Division, Fellowships are still largely funded by Pratt’s generous endowment, and supplemented by annual gifts from the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation and the J. Warwick McClintic Jr. Scholarship Fund. Since its creation in 1940, the Fellowship program has awarded more than $4.4 million to over 1,100 Virginians. In this information session, which is open to the public, attendees will learn the ins and outs of the application process, how to ensure application materials are complete, and the history behind the program and some of the familiar names who have received awards in the past. The application deadline for the 2012-13 Visual Arts Fellowship is Thursday, November 10, 2011 – applications and eligibility criteria are currently online at www.VMFA.museum/fellowships.

Cruickshanks earned an MA in the History of Art & Architecture and a BA in Art History at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. She currently serves as Fellowship Program Coordinator at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
