ALL-AMERICAN ART! – DRAWING IN BLACK & WHITE

Come and learn more about our great country through its art! Become acquainted with great American artists such as N.C. Wyeth, Audubon, Grant Wood, Mary Cassatt, and the architectural genius of Frank Lloyd Wright. Using the National Endowment for the Art’s "Picturing America" program, we will look at poster-sized prints of great American masterpieces and learn a little history in the process. This study of American Art will tie in to drawing lessons using pencil and ink pens.  Each student will get her or her own sketchbook to work in during class and to take home for drawing assignments.

Taught by Desiree Shaffer, a Vernon Hill artist who has taught art privately for seven years.  She graduated from the University of Akron with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and illustration.  She has hand-painted furniture and designed greeting cards and gift wrap for American Greetings, The Wind Rose and Lexington Furniture.

  • Suggested Ages: 9 through 18
  • Class fee $35
  • Supply fee $5 (includes sketchbook for student to keep)
  • Dates: 6 Tuesdays from September 7-October 12,  3:30-4:45
