The Prizery introduces Adult Improv Workshops
Do you want to infuse more fun into your day and gain more experience talking and thinking on your feet? Take a break from your scripted life and delve into the creative outlet of improvisation. Whether you strive to master the art of improv or just to cut loose for a couple of hours each week, The Prizery’s Improv workshops are for you.
Led by professional actor and professor, Gladdy Hampton, the workshops provide a transformative experience that empowers students from the novice to the master.
“As a foundational class for student actors and an excellent self-esteem builder for non-actors, improvisation encourages the student to let go of their fear of being on stage and in front of people,” said instructor Hampton. “It is a freeing experience and hopefully, one that is fun, exciting, and fulfilling to all who attend.”
Improvisation, the art of creating live theater in the moment, creating scenes piece by piece—from character to setting to dialogue—on a moment’s notice is a foundational course in many theater programs throughout the world. The goal of this class is to get actors excited about being a part of the creative process that is behind all great theater. By learning to express themselves freely—physically, emotionally, and mentally—student actors will participate in the challenge of improvisation, which can open a whole new world to those interested in theater or to those who simply want to become more self-confident in their everyday lives.
The Introduction to Improvisation class will be an 8-week workshop, meeting once a week during a two-month period. Each class will consist of 30 minutes of warm-up and learning a new skill, 30 minutes of game playing to practice the new skills, and an hour of improvisational practice that allows all students in the class to have time to work with a partner or partners to create an improvisation based on the week’s thematic prompts.
The cost of the program is $100 per student. Classes will meet each Thursday beginning on October 12 from 7 – 9 p.m. Students must be 21 and older to participate.
