THE IMMORTAL STORY OF TORTURED SILENCE AND PERSEVERANCE

The Prizery will open its 2017-18 slate with a dramatic stage production of William Gibson’s The Miracle Worker. The true story transports you to the early 1900s and into the lives of the Keller family. Young Helen Keller is blind and mute and trapped in a secret, silent world, unable to communicate.

The play focuses on Keller’s early childhood, where the violent, volatile, and spoiled child is taught about language and communication by her teacher, Annie Sullivan. Sullivan’s teaching helped to discipline Keller, leading her to a life of success as an adult.

The compelling story focuses on the relationship between student and teacher and is masterfully told, intricately blocked, and overwhelmingly emotional.

“I am excited to create, for the second time, the powerful story of Helen Keller and her teacher Annie Sullivan,” director Chris Jones said.

The play features Victoria Montes-Bradley as Helen Keller and Victoria Thomasson as Annie Sullivan. Montes-Bradley is making her debut as a lead actress, while Thomasson is a stage veteran, appearing in or directing more than 20 combined shows for Halifax County Little Theatre and The Prizery.

“The chemistry between Victoria and Victoria is exciting to watch,” Jones, explained. “I love the process of working with these talented young ladies. I believe that our audience will fully appreciate their work.”

The Miracle Worker will be performed October 20, 21, 27, and 28 at 7:30 p.m. and October 22 and 29 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available by visiting The Prizery Box Office at 700 Bruce Street or by calling 434.572.8339 or online at www.prizery.com.
